As a group, we decided that it was time to refresh our website to bring it up to date, better reflecting the services we offer while making it easier to get around in and giving us the ability to update and add things as we go. It sounded like a good idea at the time! Gord, Ross and I spent a lot of time writing the content, finding pictures, deciding on the layout etc. and when that was done we thought we had the bulk of the work behind us.
Wrong.
I had no idea what we were getting into. I've learned way more than I thought I would need to know about websites and I still have the feeling that I'm lost most of the time! We put our project out to tender on a service called Elance, which if you're not familiar with it, lets you post the particulars of a project and allows service providers to bid on the contract. There's a secure payment process and a way to evaluate the different vendors who bid on your project. We chose a company to do the project and the process began. They were really patient with us while we searched for answers to some of the questions they served up, mostly of the technical variety. Those of you who know me will understand that I don't shy away from things of a technical variety, but the whole language of constructing websites might as well be in Swahili for all the sense it makes to me. Eventually, months later, we have this new website which gives us a lot of new toys to play with, such as this blog.
Thanks a lot to those who helped us get this far, especially Justin Pruskowski at TDTG, Prashant at Buildzone, Daryl at Fernweb and Shawn at Blue Tango. Don't think I've run out of questions for you guys yet...
I hope you'll come back often to read about the things going on at Speed Secrets and that you won't be shy about offering your comments on whatever's on your mind. We'll do our best to keep you posted on what's going on with race driver coaching and other things in and around our part of the motorsports world.
Just don't ask me to help with your website.
